I felt more confident and I helped her get other people warm by teaching her how to knit.

I molded Mary after my love for the environment. Having her face the difficult obstacles that we are facing in modern times. I wanted to create this because of the lake of awareness of climate change. I matter because I know what's going on, and I'm not ignoring it, I'm speaking up.

Title of the Artwork:Thoughts on the chaos known as 2020

Artists Statement: 2020 has been a historic year with the racial discrimination protests, the COVID-19 pandemic, the election and other issues that have erupted into widespread movements. As a maturing teenager, I have this restless energy growing that motivates me to contribute to my community; unfortunately , as a minor, I can only do a little for these causes. On November 4th, with tensions high, I felt and urgent necessity to reflect upon the events of the year. I recorded my perspective and realized how inspired our youth will be in the future. I matter because of my magnanimous motivation sprouting from this year.

Title of the Artwork:My Name in Lights

Artists Statement: My Name in Lights' is a poem about realizing my own self-worth. I've had trouble understanding that being confident and courageous isn't the same as being egotistical, because of fear of making others feel bad. But I'm allowed to be proud of myself. I'm allowed to like the person I am, and not want to totally change myself, despite the media's constant portrayal of kids my age as achievable perfections. I am allowed to celebrate my strengths, and still work on my faults. I don't need anyone else to know I matter; as long as I know, it is true.

Title of the Artwork:Two Boxes

Artists Statement: Two Boxes is about two girls. One of them feels as if she wasn't important to the people she loves due to her low self-esteem. The other girl however knows that she plays an important part in the lives of her loved ones but often forgets that her successes can put impact on others for better or for worse. My story relates to the theme of "I matter because" because as the story progresses, the two main characters take the time to either appreciate or realize how themselves and the people around them matter -- even if it starts off small.
